Vinicius Junior was the scorer for Madrid, which had previously defeated Valladolid 3-0 but began its title defense with a 1-1 draw at Mallorca. “It’s been challenging for us to maintain the solidity we had last season,” said Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti. “We need to find a solution quickly, and I believe we will. These first three matches have revealed many issues we need to address.”
Vinicius secured his first league goal of the season with a 69th-minute penalty kick following a handball inside the area.
Las Palmas had taken an early lead just five minutes into the match when Alberto Moleiro weaved past a few defenders to score from inside the area.
Young Brazilian forward Endrick, who scored in his debut against Valladolid, replaced Vinicius Junior in the 86th minute. Las Palmas is still searching for their first win of the season, having drawn against Sevilla and lost to Leganes.
Barcelona, on the other hand, became the only team with three victories in the first three rounds after their 2-1 win at Rayo Vallecano on Tuesday.
