Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham Hotspur Football Club, often known as Tottenham or Spurs, is a professional football team located in Tottenham, North London, England. Competing in the Premier League, the highest level of English football, the team has been hosting its home games at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium since 2019, following the demolition of White Hart Lane, which was previously on the same site.
Established in 1882, Tottenham Hotspur’s crest features a cockerel standing on a football, accompanied by the Latin motto “Audere est Facere” (“to dare is to do”). Since the 1898–99 season, the club’s home kit has consistently featured white shirts and navy blue shorts. Their training facilities are situated at Hotspur Way in Bulls Cross, Enfield. Tottenham won the FA Cup for the first time in 1901, a notable achievement as they were the only non-League club to do so after the Football League was established in 1888. In the 1960–61 season, Tottenham became the first club in the 20th century to secure the League and FA Cup Double. They successfully defended the FA Cup in 1962 and, in 1963, became the first British team to win a UEFA club competition, the European Cup Winners’ Cup. Spurs also won the inaugural UEFA Cup in 1972, making them the first British club to claim two major European trophies. The club has won at least one significant trophy in each of the six decades from the 1950s to the 2000s, a feat matched only by Manchester United.
Domestically, Spurs have won two league titles, eight FA Cups, four League Cups, and seven FA Community Shields. In European competitions, they have claimed one European Cup Winners’ Cup and two UEFA Cups. Tottenham was also the runner-up in the 2018–19 UEFA Champions League. The club maintains a fierce rivalry with nearby Arsenal, competing in the North London derby. Owned by ENIC Group since 2001, Tottenham was valued at £2.6 billion ($3.2 billion) in 2024 and ranked as the eighth-highest-earning football club globally, with an annual revenue of £549.2 million in 2023.
