Raheem Sterling Excluded from Chelsea Squad for European Fixture

Raheem Sterling has been omitted from Chelsea’s squad for the first leg of their Europa Conference League play-off against Servette.

This marks the second consecutive game that the 29-year-old England forward has missed, following his absence from Chelsea‘s Premier League opener against Manchester City.

In addition to Sterling, defenders Ben Chilwell, Wesley Fofana, and Tosin Adarabioyo were also left out of Chelsea’s A-list for Thursday’s match at Stamford Bridge, with the return leg scheduled for August 29 in Switzerland.

If Chelsea advances, they may include Sterling in their squad for the Conference League group stage. Sterling’s representatives issued a statement prior to Sunday’s defeat by City, expressing the need for “clarity” on the player’s future at the club.

Chelsea has invested approximately £185m in 11 new signings this summer, resulting in manager Enzo Maresca managing a squad of over 40 senior players. Maresca expressed his desire to keep Sterling at Chelsea but admitted that “there is not enough space” for all players to participate in matches.

Since his £50m move from Manchester City in July 2022, Sterling has made 81 appearances for Chelsea.
