Liverpool are currently considering a move for Juventus’ Italian winger Federico Chiesa.
The 26-year-old has been deemed surplus to requirements by Juventus manager Thiago Motta, who took over the Serie A club earlier this summer.
Chiesa, who represented Italy in Euro 2024, reportedly has one year remaining on his current contract. He was not included in the squad for Motta’s first league match against Como and was also absent from Juventus’ game against Hellas Verona on Monday.
Liverpool’s sporting director, Richard Hughes, mentioned earlier this summer that the club would be “opportunistic if we can” when exploring new signings. So far, Liverpool’s interest in Chiesa has not progressed beyond the exploratory stage.
The Reds are closing in on a deal to sign Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, though they have yet to make any official signings this summer under new manager Arne Slot. They did attempt to acquire Spanish midfielder Martin Zubimendi, but he opted to remain with Real Sociedad.
Chiesa joined Juventus from Fiorentina in 2020 for a fee that could rise to £54 million. He has made 131 appearances for Juventus and was part of Italy’s Euro 2020-winning squad. However, injuries and inconsistent form have limited his contributions in recent seasons.
