Liverpool has reached an agreement to sign Georgian goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia in a transfer worth up to £29 million
The 23-year-old will join the Reds pending a work permit and international clearance, with the deal comprising a £25 million fee plus an additional £4 million in potential add-ons.
Despite the agreement, Mamardashvili will remain with Valencia for the current season and is set to move to Merseyside at the start of the 2025-26 campaign.
Alisson Becker, the Brazilian international, continues to be Liverpool’s first-choice goalkeeper, while new manager Arne Slot also has Republic of Ireland’s Caoimhin Kelleher available this season. Mamardashvili recently featured in all four of Georgia’s matches at Euro 2024, where they were eliminated by eventual champions Spain in the round of 16.
Since joining Valencia in 2021, Mamardashvili has made 102 appearances for the La Liga side and has started both of their matches this season, which resulted in defeats against Barcelona and Celta Vigo.
Liverpool acted swiftly to secure Mamardashvili’s services, recognizing that with increasing interest from other clubs, he might not have been available in the next 12 to 24 months. Alisson, who has two years remaining on his contract with an option for a third, has been informed of the move and supports the signing, viewing Mamardashvili as a valuable addition to Liverpool’s goalkeeping lineup for the future.
