Carlo Ancelotti has expressed that he is more focused on Real Madrid’s preparation and fitness during pre-season rather than the results, following their 2-1 defeat to Barcelona on Saturday night. Despite the loss, Ancelotti emphasized the importance of getting his players ready for the upcoming season.
Focus on Preparation Over Results
Real Madrid faced Barcelona in the summer Clasico, with Barca emerging as 2-1 victors thanks to goals from Pau Victor and a late consolation from Nico Paz. Los Blancos were without several key players due to their involvement in international tournaments earlier in the summer.
Stars like Jude Bellingham, Kylian Mbappe, and Dani Carvajal have yet to return after their deep runs at Euro 2024, while pivotal midfielder Federico Valverde has also not yet rejoined the squad following the Copa America. Ancelotti highlighted that the absence of these players played a significant role in the defeat.
Prioritizing Fitness and Match Minutes
After the match, Ancelotti told reporters, “We’re working on our preparations, and the players are gradually coming back to the team. The result is not so important. The objective is for players to get minutes and to get them in good shape. We’re not focusing on tactical aspects. That starts on the seventh [of August]. We’re not worried. It’s a pre-season game, and we’re missing eight players.”
Madrid welcomed back Brazilians Vinicius Junior, Eder Militao, and Rodrygo to their matchday squad against Barcelona. While Militao started and Rodrygo remained an unused substitute, Vinicius entered the Clasico in the 57th minute and demonstrated why he is a favorite for the next Ballon d’Or with several impressive dribbles and goal attempts.
Ancelotti on Vinicius Junior’s Return
When asked about the returning 24-year-old, Ancelotti added, “He was good and looked in good shape. It is clear that he has worked on vacation. The players are now back in good physical shape and don’t need a lot of work.”
As Real Madrid continues their pre-season preparations, Ancelotti remains focused on ensuring his squad is in peak condition for the new season, with the results of pre-season matches being of secondary importance.
