AS Monaco
Association Sportive de Monaco Football Club, commonly known as AS Monaco, is a professional football club based in Fontvieille, Monaco. Although Monaco is not in France, the club is a member of the French Football Federation (FFF) and competes in Ligue 1, the top division of French football. Founded in 1918, AS Monaco plays its home matches at Stade Louis II, with its training center located in la Turbie, France.
Despite not being a French club, Monaco is highly successful in French football, having won eight Ligue 1 titles, five Coupe de France trophies, and one Coupe de la Ligue. The club has also had notable European runs, finishing as runners-up in the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup in 1992 and the UEFA Champions League in 2004.
Monaco’s traditional colors are red and white, earning them the nickname Les Rouge et Blanc (The Red and Whites). The club is part of the European Club Association. In December 2011, Russian billionaire Dmitry Rybolovlev acquired a two-thirds stake in the club. With his financial support, Monaco quickly returned to Ligue 1 and secured the 2016–17 Ligue 1 title, their first league championship in 17 years.
