Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker has revealed that he declined an opportunity to move to Saudi Arabia this summer, stating that he is “really happy” at Anfield.
The Brazilian shot-stopper joined Liverpool in 2018 from Roma in a then-world record £66.8 million deal for a goalkeeper. Since his arrival, Alisson, now 31, has become a pivotal figure at the club, helping the Reds secure numerous titles, including the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, EFL Cup, and Club World Cup over his 261 appearances.
In 2023, Liverpool saw key players Fabinho, Roberto Firmino, and Jordan Henderson make the move to Saudi Arabia. However, Alisson has made it clear that his future remains on Merseyside. “I want to honor my contract and finish it here, or even sign a new one. I am really happy here, and my family is happy,” Alisson stated, with his current contract running until 2026.
Despite the lucrative offers tempting many players to Saudi Arabia, Alisson admitted that he never seriously entertained discussions about his salary. “It was just interest, but when you hear about the numbers other players are getting, it’s natural to feel a little attracted. That’s normal,” he added. However, he emphasized that “now is not the time” for him to consider such a move.
Liverpool is also on the verge of signing Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili to provide competition for Alisson. The 23-year-old Georgia international is expected to join Anfield in a deal reportedly worth £30 million.
Alisson welcomed the news, saying, “I knew about that [Mamardashvili] before it was public, which is a good sign for me because it shows the club values my opinion. They are making the right moves, but as long as I have my contract here, I am happy, and the club is happy with me, I will stay.”
Alisson’s commitment to Liverpool reinforces his dedication to the club, with no immediate plans to seek a new challenge elsewhere.
