AC Milan
Associazione Calcio Milan, commonly known as AC Milan or simply Milan, is an Italian professional football club based in Milan, Lombardy. Founded in 1899, AC Milan competes in Serie A, the top division of Italian football, where it has played throughout its history except for the 1980–81 and 1982–83 seasons.
Domestically, AC Milan has secured 19 league titles, ranking as the third-most successful club in Serie A behind Juventus and city rivals Inter Milan. The club has also won 5 Coppa Italia trophies and 7 Supercoppa Italiana titles. On the international stage, Milan has amassed 18 FIFA and UEFA trophies, the third highest among all clubs globally, shared with Boca Juniors and Independiente, and the most for any Italian club. This includes seven European Cup/Champions League titles (a joint record), five UEFA Super Cups, two UEFA Cup Winners’ Cups, three Intercontinental Cups (a joint record), and one FIFA Club World Cup. Milan’s European accolades also feature two Latin Cups (a joint record).
Initially, Milan played at various locations in the city before settling at the San Siro Stadium in 1926. Built by the club’s second chairman, Piero Pirelli, and shared with Inter Milan since 1947, the San Siro is the largest stadium in Italian football, with a capacity of 75,817. AC Milan has a fierce rivalry with Inter, known as the Derby della Madonnina, which is one of the most popular derbies in football.
The club is among the wealthiest in Italian and global football and was a founding member of the G-14 group of Europe’s leading football clubs and its successor, the European Club Association.
