Chelsea have successfully completed the signing of Joao Felix from Atletico Madrid
The 24-year-old Portuguese forward, who spent the last season on loan at Barcelona, is no stranger to Stamford Bridge, having played for Chelsea on loan during the second half of the 2022/23 season.
Felix’s return to Chelsea comes after the club’s move for Atletico forward Samu Omorodion broke down. Reports suggest that the deal for Felix was crucial in facilitating Conor Gallagher’s transfer to Atletico Madrid, which was confirmed earlier in the day.
During his loan spell at Barcelona, Felix made 44 appearances and scored 10 goals, but the Catalan club chose not to make the move permanent. Prior to that, Felix had a brief stint at Chelsea, where he played 20 games and scored four goals. His relationship with Atletico manager Diego Simeone had deteriorated over recent years, making his departure from the club expected this summer.
Speaking to Chelsea’s official website, Felix expressed his excitement about returning to the club on a permanent basis. “It’s a chance for me to find a home,” he said. “After two loans, Chelsea and Barca, I needed to stay permanently in one place. There is no better place for me to be than Chelsea. I see a perfect place to shine.”
Felix also reflected on his previous time at Chelsea, despite the challenging results, stating, “I felt really good when I was here. I’m really happy to be back. I feel like my best years are ahead of me. This year is going to be a good year because now I am permanently at home, and I can enjoy home.”
