Thierry Henry has stepped down as the manager of France’s under-21 team, citing “personal reasons” for his departure.
This decision comes shortly after he led the French side to a silver medal at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Henry, who had signed a two-year contract set to last until 2025, unexpectedly vacates his role a year early.
Under Henry’s leadership, France reached the final of the Olympic Games but lost 5-3 to Spain in an intense match at the Parc des Princes. Spain’s victory was sealed by two extra-time goals from Sergio Camello, following an early lead by Enzo Millot for France and a dramatic comeback by Les Bleus that saw Jean-Philippe Mateta score a stoppage-time penalty to force extra time.
