Manchester United’s New Signings Yoro and Hojlund Suffer Significant Injuries
Manchester United‘s new £52m defender Leny Yoro has been ruled out for three months, while striker Rasmus Hojlund will miss six weeks due to injuries sustained in Saturday’s pre-season game against Arsenal. Both players were forced off the field during the first half of the 2-1 defeat at the SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles. Yoro was later seen at United’s training base at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), on Tuesday, wearing a protective boot and using crutches. This sparked concerns of a major injury, and those fears have been confirmed, with the 18-year-old Yoro expected to be out until the end of October.
As a result, Yoro will miss nine Premier League games, including key matches against Liverpool, Tottenham, and Aston Villa, as well as the start of United’s Europa League and Carabao Cup campaigns. Further tests will be conducted when Yoro returns to the UK to determine the exact extent of his injury. Despite this setback, he will remain with the United squad for the rest of their US tour, which concludes with a match against Liverpool in Columbia, South Carolina, on Saturday.
Hojlund, who scored United’s opener at the weekend, succumbed to a hamstring problem and will be sidelined until after the September international break. This means he will miss the crucial Liverpool game at Old Trafford on 1 September.
The injuries to Yoro and Hojlund may prompt Manchester United to revive their efforts to sign Jarred Branthwaite from Everton or Matthijs de Ligt from Bayern Munich, following previous approaches for both players earlier this summer.
