Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona have ramped up their pursuit of Nico Williams from Athletic Club, as reported by Mundo Deportivo.
However, with the LaLiga side reluctant to pay ‘exorbitant’ fees, PSG’s financial offer gives them a significant edge.
Barcelona are particularly worried about PSG’s aggressive move to sign Williams, to the point that their sporting director Deco is missing the U.S. tour to negotiate the deal.
Williams, 22, has a €58 million release clause in his contract, which is unlikely to deter Europe’s top clubs given his age and his key role in Spain’s Euro 2024 victory.
Meanwhile, RMC Sport reports that PSG have prepared a list of alternative targets. Although Williams is their top priority, the Ligue 1 champions are aware that securing the deal might be challenging and are thus considering other players, such as Manchester United’s Jadon Sancho.
